In Vitro Fertilization, or IVF Treatment can assist such couples. In this procedure, mature eggs are extracted from the ovaries and fertilized in the lab with sperm. The formed embryo is then transferred to the uterus in order to achieve conception. The treatment begins on day 2 of the menstrual cycle, and embryo transfer is usually performed between days 15 and 19 of the cycle if it is a fresh embryo transfer. The hormonal injections for the growth of multiple follicles in the ovaries begin on the second day of menstruation. These injections are typically administered for 10-12 days. After 6-7 days of injection, the patient may experience mild abdominal pain, discomfort, nausea, and bloating. On the same day that the follicles develop, the oocytes are extracted from the female and the sperm sample is collected from a male. The eggs and sperms are kept in the same dish to allow the sperms to fertilize the eggs. The resulting embryos are then grown in the lab for 3-5 days before being frozen and transferred to the uterus. For the next 12-15 days following embryo transfer, the patient receives hormonal support in the form of oral tablets and vaginal injections. If the patient becomes pregnant as a result of this procedure, the support medication will be continued for the next 10-12 weeks.
